Old Tórshavn

Tour of Old Tórshavn friday 21st March 2025
Come join us for a walk in Tinganes and Reyn the oldes part of the capitol Tórshavn.
Tinganes, was the place where the vikings met to have 'thing' what we today call a parliament. And still today this are is the historical core of the country’s capital. Dividing the bay of Tórhsavn into two harbours, this flat rocky outcrop is dominated by delightfully turf-roofed houses that, quite unassumingly, are home to the Faroese government (Føroya Landssýri).
As presented on the Homepage of Visit Faroe Islands:
Historic Tinganes is the oldest part of Tórshavn and still today houses the Prime Minister’s office and several government departments. This district has always been the political and commercial heart of the Faroe Islands and over the centuries has been a place of murky commercial dealings and political struggles as well as romance and intrigue. Who knows, you may even bump into the Faroese Prime Minister as you wander around here. Even if you don’t and only come across the free range chicken that call Tinganes home, you’ll soon understand that tradition and modernity go hand in hand in this very special part of the Faroese capital.
Come join us for the walk. The walk starts at Kongabrúgvin, the Kings harbour at 11 on friday the 8th of March and the duration is 2 hours, you will be back at the hotel in good time for the tournament and starting reception.
The price is DKK 300.
